So-cloth, our clothing line with attractive prints

Nous avons sélectionné une qualité de tissu aux nombreux atouts: la viscose. Longtemps appelée “soie artificielle”, la viscose a beaucoup de similitudes avec cette étoffe onéreuse.

A bit of history

Viscose was invented in 1884 by Count Hilaire de Chardonnet from natural plant fibres such as cotton and linen. Viscose is composed of 90% cellulose and collodion, extracted from wood, and is transformed into a synthetic material following chemical treatments. It was one of the first artificial materials to be created. Patented in 1892 in the United Kingdom, viscose was first processed into sewing thread to create fabric in 1898, at lower cost. The material experienced significant economic growth on several continents and became a staple of quality clothing.

A fabric with many benefits

Very soft, it is similar to cotton and very comfortable to wear. Its fluidity and lightness offer incredible freedom of movement and give it an elegant drape with a heavy fall. Unlike polyester, viscose is not elastic but is still very absorbent and breathable. With its slightly satiny and silky appearance, viscose is perfect for bright colours and adds an elegant touch to clothing. Finally, it is much less expensive to produce than silk and is an excellent alternative to silk, within the reach of all budgets.

Care tips

The only downside is that viscose is an easily wrinkled and fragile fabric, so it is important to take care of it. It is best to wash by hand and especially in cold water! If this is not possible, put your fabric in a washing net and select a delicate low temperature programme, which should not exceed 30°C. Finally, banish the tumble dryer and leave to dry in the open air
